Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)
A second home by definition is a residence that you intend to occupy in addition to your primary residence. It is a residence/country that is kept available for one’s exclusive use and enjoyment at all times. The government of Malaysia offers foreigners to make Malaysia their second home through Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Program. It was introduced in 2002 specifically to attract foreigners wishing to live a meaningful and affordable life in Malaysia. Foreigners who fulfill the criteria for the MM2H program can stay in Malaysia for as long as possible on a multiple-entry visa. The visa is initially for 5-10 years, and is easily renewable.

Yes, you can buy and own property in Malaysia. One clear advantage of MM2H visa is that it provides cheaper price tags for property purchase. For example in Sarawak state, a foreigner cannot purchase property less than RM 500,000. But MM2H visa holders can purchase property as low as RM 300,000 minimum. In Kedah, there is no minimum purchase price on properties bought by MM2H visa holders. In Perak, the minimum price is RM 350,000 as opposed to the RM 1 million for non-MM2H visa holders. In Penang, the minimum price drops to RM 500,000 although that’s limited to a maximum of 2 units.
